 Já foi possível ser otimista com relação à tecnologia. Da posição ingênua que viu o desenvolvimento de usinas e armas nucleares e não enxergou na inovação da técnica nada além de “novas ferramentas”, passamos por uma geração que comprou a narrativa de que a internet criaria um mundo novo, onde pessoas poderiam conectar-se entre si e compartilhar conhecimento (o que de fato ocorreu) de maneira direta e livre da influência do Estado e de grandes corporações (o que não ocorreu, mas por um momento muito breve pareceu plausível), para hoje habitarmos enfim Zeitgeist em que CEOs publicamente promovem frenesis semirreligiosos que vão da fuga para Marte à chegada da Singularidade, pretendendo converter modelos de linguagem em literais messias, oráculos alternadamente divinos, alienígenas ou supra-humanos encarnados em equações derivadas e GPUs. Com microplásticos nadando ao lado de nossas mitocôndrias e nossa capacidade cognitiva de atenção negociada como commodity, parece evidente que atingimos algum tipo de pós-Humanidade – mas talvez não aquele sonhado por Haraway. 

Frente a uma tendência histórica que parece levar ao inexorável apagamento da subjetividade e de qualquer barreira entre o “natural” e “artificial” em nossos corpos, paisagens e pensamentos, como pode o artista contemporâneo reagir? Uma resposta, bem intencionada mas natimorta, é a rejeição completa e quase ludista da presença da máquina na criação artística, o fazer artístico aqui romantizado como território da introspecção genial, intimidade por excelência purificada da contaminação pelo não-Humano. Seguindo uma linha difusa de diferentes pesquisas que inclui Warhol e sua serigrafia, a música estocástica de Iannis Xenakis, ou ainda o ready-made, mas que se poderia dizer inicia com o azul de cádmio, primeiro pigmento sintético, ou ainda com o uso da camera obscura, uma resposta alternativa é abraçar a artificialidade da técnica e as possibilidades criativas que introduz, negando qualquer diferença essencial entre a cerâmica e o polietileno de alta densidade, ou entre o pincel e um modelo de difusão latente de geração de imagens. 

Esta última é a posição de Gpeto em sua pesquisa, que há anos mescla em seu processo criativo a utilização de inteligência artificial, treinada a partir de suas próprias pinturas, para a geração de imagens que viram então referências para novas pinturas, em ciclo de retroalimentação pictórica que admite uma continuidade (ou parceria?) entre máquina e artista. Em ORGANISMO SINTÉTICO, primeira exposição centrada em sua pesquisa escultórica, o artista apresenta obras em que tanto forma e tema reforçam esta mesma tese: agressivos e sedutores, corpos de espuma expansiva de poliuretano mimetizam como sublimes quimeras tentáculos munidos de chifres, serpentes em posição de ataque ou ainda vulcões próximos à erupção. O acabamento resinado brilhante, que ora proporciona às esculturas aspecto mucoso, pulsante e visceral, ora traz nas pinturas aparência vitrificada e asséptica similar ao de telas de televisões ou celulares, evocando repulsa e desejo simultâneos. Na Natureza sintetizada por Gpeto, pinturas e esculturas sangram como fígados e corações, e animais sem alma perambulam livremente pelos campos como pássaros, gazelas ou chimpanzés: o que nos resta é contemplar nossa própria Criação.

Frequentemente escolhemos palavras como fragmentação e descentramento para descrever certa condição contemporânea, relacionando-as diretamente com a presença marcada de novas tecnologias. Vale lembrar que essas características talvez sejam parte de um processo mais longo, mudanças enfrentadas pela própria história da percepção ao longo do século XIX.


Em sua importante genealogia sobre as técnicas da visão, Jonathan Crary nos mostra que no conhecido modelo óptico da câmera escura (que prefigura a invenção da fotografia) qualquer interferência do corpo humano era deixada de lado frente à produção da imagem, que se dava por uma relação meramente física. O sujeito observador era introspectivo em sua racionalidade, protegido dos “enganos do sensível”, e a imagem restava como mero efeito do espetáculo luminoso. É Goethe quem sugere um direcionamento do olhar para a escuridão, onde seria possível conhecer uma imagem criada pela percepção da ausência de luz, subvertendo o dispositivo anterior. Esta era formada pelo próprio olho que vê e seu corpo orgânico, como se a fisiologia pudesse então perceber a imagem do mundo.


Gpeto elenca a paisagem digital como um termo importante para descrever sua produção. Talvez seja impossível pensar as imagens do mundo hoje sem a interferência do repertório visual da tela e das interfaces digitais no cotidiano. A produção do artista se apropria, em determinados momentos, do recurso de criação de imagens por meio das inteligências artificiais. A geração dessas figuras o leva a desenvolver pinturas que lidam com presenças específicas, seres ou coisas que não existem na realidade palpável, mas que podem ser imaginados com o auxílio dos recursos digitais. No entanto, não se filia aos segmentos da dita “arte digital”, na medida em que os suportes físicos se apresentam como centralidades em sua prática. Cavalo de Troia apresenta uma disposição de pinturas e esculturas, categorias tradicionais da história da arte, embora Gpeto traga modos de se relacionar com essas linguagens que indicam outras formas de relação com a imagem em si, talvez porque haja importantes mediações envolvidas.


Donna Haraway apresenta, na década de 80, a figura do ciborgue enquanto um mito político. Apesar das décadas que separam a escrita do seu manifesto com os tempos de hoje, a atualidade ainda parece reivindicar o ciborgue enquanto metáfora ou expressão máxima de algumas tensões. Aqui a figura talvez nos ajude a pensar a dimensão digital da paisagem que Gpeto está lidando, ou mesmo entender algumas questões ligadas a este corpo que é fragmentado ao longo da história, junto às suas capacidades perceptivas e cognitivas. O momento pós câmera escura traz o corpo vivo, passível de ser afetado, enquanto um ativo produtor de imagens. Em meio à saturada hiper conexão que vivemos, junto dos incessantes estímulos que nos atravessam, como essas condições afetam nossas relações com as imagens e sua produção?


A autora falava de um tempo mítico marcado por uma simbiose entre humanos e máquinas. A partir do ciborgue só podemos entender humanidade enquanto hibridismo e quimera. Nos trabalhos desta exposição Gpeto está lidando com imagens a partir de hibridizações e transformações (inspirado, ao mesmo tempo, pela paisagem cotidiana e a digital). Resta a sensação de que para pensar o corpo hoje, partir dos diferentes atravessamentos que ele pode ter com a técnica é algo incontornável, bem como tomar a organicidade em sua pureza como algo permanentemente dissolvido. Talvez seja por isso que as esculturas presentes em Cavalo de Troia, possibilitadas pelo efeito da manipulação da espuma expansiva, sejam ao mesmo tempo pedaço de gente e resto de coisa, na mesma medida em que disputam alguma independência. O brilho da resina faz a imagem reluzir e delirar, enquanto algo permanece em opacidade.


O ciborgue é a abolição de fronteiras outrora organizadoras: homem/animal, animal/máquina, natureza/cultura, cultura/tecnologia. Ele atua a favor de um profundo hibridismo, enquanto Gpeto está hibridizando processos analógicos e digitais. Talvez seja importante elencar “acoplamento” como uma palavra-chave para guiar alguma observação desta exposição. Temos com a tecnologia uma relação muitas vezes marcada por uma aderência quase imperceptível. Nossas experiencias são, de um modo geral, ampliadas com os aparatos disponíveis. A máquina é uma expansão de possibilidade, uma prótese que se liga de modo fundamental à vida humana. As esculturas presentes podem ser estruturas autônomas, mas também podemos entendê-las como extensões que se acoplam ao corpo. Pedaços de um ciborgue destruído, portadores de alguma fantasmagoria salvadora. Ao mesmo tempo as esculturas comportam algo de visceral, remetendo à materialidade da carne, como a região material do nosso corpo que é a todo tempo atravessada por essa demanda acelerada, que penetra o físico e invade o mental.


É possível dizer que o descentramento avassalador experimentado hoje é atravessado por uma experiência singular em relação ao tempo. Ninguém mais dorme, sabemos. O tempo que nos resta é um presente reiterado. O experimentamos efetivamente quando estamos acordados, operando em função de uma espécie de economia servil. No presente dilatado o horizonte parece dissolvido, o que afeta nossa relação com a memória e com o esquecimento. A capacidade de hesitar é prejudicada, bem como a possibilidade da deriva e do devaneio. A hiper estimulação excita o presente e nos faz desejar o curto-prazo e os automatismos. E isso não se deve somente às novas tecnologias, mas a algo mais complexo. Em jogo estão práticas discursivas, fluxos do capital, formando dispositivos que estão inscritos historicamente. Tematizar as tecnologias isoladas seria esquecer a dimensão do tempo histórico vivido e o que nos faz chegar até aqui.


O tempo que navegamos é uma linha homogênea. Em tamanha batalha travada pelo corpo hibridizado, o trabalho de Gpeto talvez nos transmita a necessidade de alguma pausa. Se não um momento de reflexão, um questionamento atônito. A parada aqui não é de alguma forma idílica, e nem por isso menos crítica. Há ritmos e intensidades nessas imagens, de alguma forma elas se valem de uma modulação contemporânea, mas não embarcam em absoluto em uma aceleração acrítica, de modo que possamos, ao observá-las, urdir no tecido do cotidiano alguma coisa. Enquanto o repertório imagético da tela parece demasiado real, as imagens trazidas para esta exposição partem dessa conformação, mas produzem a partir dela algumas distorções que provocam o pensamento.


A ideia de aproximar o funcionamento do cérebro do processamento de uma máquina parece adequada à contemporaneidade, mas e se pensássemos, junto a Bergson, o cérebro como um operador de esquecimento, na medida em que se confunde com o espírito e é capaz de reservar uma memória mais virtualizada do que arquivista? Sim, as máquinas estão cada mais vez automatizadas, restando ao cérebro humano o desafio de não esquecer de praticar o lapso, uma vez que as estruturas vão se confundindo. Buscar o esquecimento e as distorções pode ser um modo de desprender-se da obsessiva procura pela fixação e o armazenamento. 


O tempo é, além de tudo, irreversível. As coisas vão passar, os elementos desvanecem. É difícil não estar ressentido. Para praticar o lapso é preciso algum grau de devaneio. Ao visitar esta exposição e percebê-la faz-se necessária uma entrada num determinado fluxo de tempo que incide na imagem. O controle social tem como um dos efeitos a colonização temporal, que reifica a existência e a experiência em um contínuo, impondo certas relações unidirecionais com a imagem. O corpo ativo, efeito de práticas discursivas e seus dispositivos, outrora capaz de traduzir os feixes de luz em imagem, hoje se depara com a paisagem dita digital, uma abstração ainda maior e mais luminosa. Os trabalhos de Gpeto não só elaboram, de um modo direto ou indireto, as questões ligadas ao conjunto visual da tela, como possibilitam alguma busca por outros modos de existência. Se partirmos do pressuposto de que não há propriamente uma oposição evidente entre tecnologia e cultura, somos todos ciborgues. O Cavalo de Troia é uma miragem real, uma construção que não se sabe verdadeira, mas relevante no imaginário. A máquina de guerra é feita de madeira, fazendo alusão ao animal cavalo. Trojan Horse, não à toa, é nome de um vírus de computador muito recorrente, um famoso malware que causa distorções e afetações nos sistemas. Cabe a nós imaginar possíveis variações de composições e acoplamentos mais interessantes e imaginativos, de modo a não criar uma aceitação passiva de tamanha aceleração que conforma a modernidade no ocidente.

se um dia já fomos capaz de nos despedir, citando caros pulsos telefônicos como desculpa e dizendo "vou sair do PC, flw!” para voltarmos à nossa puramente encarnada vida offline, hoje a própria distinção online/offline (ou digital/real) colapsou inteiramente sob o peso do alastramento de celulares, redes sociais, algoritmos de IA e, cronicamente online, nos encontramos absolutamente incapazes de cogitar uma existência desconectada das nuvens que nos alimentam a alma e sua ansiedade latente, que compulsivamente nos leva a engolir e digerir, sem mal mastigar, cada vez mais "conteúdo". antes uma representação limitada de nossa identidade, os perfis que curamos e construimos passaram a ser a imagem principal que os outros (e nós mesmos) formam de nós. 

refletindo sobre a condição pós-internet, a exposição cronicamente online apresenta as pinturas de gpeto (RJ), cuja pesquisa dialoga com a fugacidade das interfaces digitais e usa a recursividade da geração de imagens por redes neurais como combustível para suas referências, além das esculturas de ANNA ANNA (SP), que utilizando sua própria figura como matéria-prima e distorcendo-a digitalmente, a transmuta em formas alienígenas, simultaneamente orgânicas e artificiais - como cada um de nós.

Vivemos sob o imperativo capitalista 24/7, em que todos sentem a necessidade constante de assumir um estado de vigília e utilidade. O trabalho e a atividade definem seu lugar na sociedade, e o ócio é visto como algo a se eliminar. Olhos se vidram em telas; no primeiro sinal de cansaço toma mais um café, quinto do dia, ou redbull, ou qualquer coisa que motive o olhar, o corpo, a produtividade, o não descanso.


Dormir, ao mesmo tempo que se torna descartável, é a única forma de desligar esse estado e mergulhar nas experiências subjetivas do nosso inconsciente frequentemente motivado e atiçado. A representação dessa subjetividade na pintura de Gpeto acontece através da apropriação de dispositivos tecnológicos e suas interfaces para a elaboração de pinturas fragmentadas, e flasheadas, como se apresentam nossos sonhos. O novo só é novo a partir do término do antigo, o tempo fica comprimido e as experiências efêmeras.

A vigília é também espécie de vício, que alimenta uma sociedade compulsiva por produtividade, como fosse ela o status máximo que se pode alcançar numa lógica capitalista de trabalho. O indivíduo se isola e perde o senso de separação entre os espaços de trabalho e lazer, pois ambos são permeados pela necessidade de ação, e o medo de desaparecer cria um sujeito obediente que alimenta esse fluxo de estímulos.

As imagens criadas por Gpeto remetem às interfaces de uma realidade móvel, dispositiva, filtrada, constantemente editada e sobreposta, como as camadas que compõem as pinturas. A repetição reforça a ideia de um ritmo acelerado, uma simulação contínua do novo, que reforça a ideia de acúmulo, excesso, compressão. 


Vigília é o grito do artista, a necessidade do respiro, da pausa; é a percepção do imperativo dessa lógica sistêmica. É também um convite para sair dela e viver as sensações do corpo.

 Dia 26 de Agosto, quinta-feira da próxima semana, abrimos "um pouco de sonho e o resto do óbvio,". A exposição envolve trabalhos de Gpeto , Alexandre Nitzsche e Fujioka e faz parte do conjunto de propostas selecionadas em nossa Chamada Aberta, feita em 2019.Os artistas envolvidos na mostra possuem trajetórias que se encontram. Os três se articulam, de algum modo, com o uso da rua como espaço expressivo e intensivo. E por isso, para essa exposição, os trabalhos coletivos desenvolvidos na própria Refresco, assim como as obras individuais de cada um, partem de uma consideração sobre o lugar: a historicidade desse prédio, seus resquícios e suas formas.“ A abertura acontece a partir das 14h, se estendendo até 20h. “um pouco de sonho e o resto do óbvio,” fica disponível para visitação do dia 26 ao 29 de Agosto.O ambiente da Refresco é aberto e ventilado e contará com um número limitado de pessoas por vez, e o uso de máscara é obrigatório. As visitas à exposição serão feitas mediante agendamento prévio que pode ser feito no link em nossa bio.Todes serão muito bem vindes. ”&#38;nbsp;
